I have a recording of Jimi Hendrix doing a banjo instrumental which is as far removed from his usual guitar frazzlings as is possible to get. Funny how this guy takes a banjo and tries to sound like Jimi in full flow. If only we had fuzzed up, distorted fiddles......... sh*t..... we already do. Wonderful!
Now that's worth listening to. Nice pick, Red Robin. Hope I got my spelling right this time. Would hate to have the spelling cops on my back! Never mind the fact they lack in puncuation as well as good taste. Whatever!
Dub, it's like the monkeys and typewriters. By May 2011 it will be possible to find a video of ANYTHING imaginable on youtube. Including yerself playing tuba in a band with Sharon Shannon and the teletubbies...for example.
Never did go for 'best ever' nonsense -even when intentionally nonsense ! However - link did lead me to 'click through' and discover this link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxBzBimfAYs&feature=related
Mick O'Conner - 7+ min of pure listening joy. Maybe it's been previously noted on 'thesession' - but I'd missed it.
Nothing too flashy, just steady, tasteful playing that makes for great listening. BPM for reels has been subject of several previous discussions. I've tried timing what sounds the right speed (to my ears) for most reels, and jigs for that matter, Its a fairly narrow range, between 112 -118 BPM. This video is just about dead centre of that range.
Just seen another Youtube link "fastest banjo player !" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbNlqXHVyoM&NR=1
Just shows what happens when speeding. He simply misses out notes, and sounds like he'se losing the tune /timing half the time.
Best Banjo player ever
