I've searched though the comments for the various Gold Rings on this site, but haven't come across this version. Is there another name for the tune maybe? Thanks...
That's it Jumper, the other Gold Ring. It's definitely my favourite of the two different versions but then I'd say most fiddle players would probably also say the same thing.
I heard Brian Connelly (from New York) play this version live at the Glen Echo Irish Fesitval some years ago. It was played in very high spirits and sounded like a wonderful tune.
The D version is definitely more suited for the fiddle, because of the low notes on the G string. I think it's often associated with New York/Sligo players, and was recorded by Andy McGann, John Vesey, and others.
