Geantraí TG4 (Sun 6 Jan) featured Tara Breen (fiddle) Cathal King (flute) and Noel Ryan on guitar. The tunes they played were introduced as "Jackson's" and "The Man of Aran". However when I searched for "Jackson's" here, the tunes I find under that name do not sound like the tune they played. Could someone please help me find the actual tune they played on the programme. Maybe it's here under another name? Maybe my hearing is going or at least highly suspect? Thanks for any help in sorting out this tune.
If recall correctly. Hanrahan said they would play "Jackson's" and "The man of Aran" AND maybe another one. "Jackson's" was played as no. 2 followed by "The man of Aran". So I belive the tune you are looking for is the first one? And that one they did'nt give the name of.
Sadly I can't help you but probably someone on this site can.
Thanks for your help, TradLad. I presumed all along that Jackson's was the first tune they played. So it appears now that they played it as their second tune. That leaves me to find the name of that lovely first tune. Thanks again!
Thanks for naming those tunes for me, concertinaplayer. I'm off right now to tackle that Man of Aran. It sounded so nice with the flute/fiddle combination and guitar accompaniment.

Re: Jackson's Reel as played on Geantraí?
The first tune is Man Of Aran, written about thirty years ago by Darach de Brun. Second is Jacksons and the third tune is Monaghan Twig

Hear the definitive version of the Man of Aran on the classic Donncha O'Briain album, if you can get hold of it!

Or hear the composer play it on Oisin's first album- if you get it
