USA... Problem buying an imported bodhran...

USA... Problem buying an imported bodhran...

This was my note to a drum maker yesterday. Should I try and negotiate?

"Ouch.... The dollar hit a two year low against the Euro today... $1 equals $1.1438 euros. that is over a 14% price increase on the price you quoted me. Were you aware of this? Nothing we can do about that. Last year the $1 equaled $0.90 euros.... However, that is over $1000 dollars for two drums. I'm not complaining as much as I am thinking out loud. I am looking for high quality. Sadly, I bought a Brendan White double skinned drum and it was an embarrassment. Brendan makes these drums 20 at a time every few weeks, and the quality does not exist! But of course, it was only $250 Euro's at a one-for-one exchange rate, you get what you pay for. I'll get back to you in a few days. Warm regards".

I didn't write that correctly initial note correctly Danny.........

This maker is rather exceptional, and that was what I was looking for. There are many drummakers out there, - from my research, most of them are making tourist grade instruments. His prices are fair,.... the new problem I just realized was, Yes, his prices are quoted on euro's, and to my surprise, the euro is now 15% higher than the dollar and predicted to get worse. It didn't happen over night. It has been a long slide and I have never been confronted with the exchange rate difference as a buyer until now. So, it's not his fault, and if I asked to pay in dollars, he would lose money due to the unfavorable exchange and couldn't accept that an an option. So, there's not much to negotiate. I can either buy the instrument, or not. This is going to have an adverse effect on all the instrument makers who sell to clients in America. Flutes, fiddles, guitars, drums...

Any change in exchange rate that might occur in a few days, weeks or even months will only be a few percentage points, and are as likely to go against me, as to go in my favor.....~

I just wanted to point this new problem out. Years past, Americans had a favorable edge in exchange rates, against almost any currency, the pound, euro, peso...... That is NOT the case now.

Plus, I was trying to start a new bodhran thread but this one isn't very lively now that I think about... Too businesslike.

You need to inject more sarcasm if you want a bodhran thread to snowball
