Fiddle Music from Leeds

Fiddle Music from Leeds

Here are the video clips which deserve more attention: Des Hurley on the fiddle and his nephew Dermot on the bodhran and guitar. The Hurleys are flourishing back in Ireland, but Des is still keeping up the music in Yorkshire. Enjoy!

Re: Fiddle Music from Leeds

Thanks, Slainte. Beautiful. I know Dermot from Sessions in Drumshanbo and I met Des once in London, but I had no idea they were related ...and I didn't know Dermot played guitar.

Re: Fiddle Music from Leeds

Decades ago, in Leeds, it was Des who convinced me to pack in strumming and learn the music. We were both kids really, though he was already a master.

Des's brother Michael's been the chairman of the Ballymote branch of comhaltas. Dermot is Michael's son, I believe. Another of Michael's children, Mairead won the All-Ireland on the concertina in 2006.

Re: Fiddle Music from Leeds

...on second thoughts, I have seen Dermot playing guitar. But I think the first time I met him, he was on Banjo.
