Yes- tho' it took a couple of go's to get into it. A lot of pain there, in the parallel between being blind and being in captivity- but also a lot of light. Rewarding read- go for it.
It seemed to me okay as an artsy novel, so long as you forget any connection with music. As far as I know Brian Keenan makes no claim to be a musician and I could find no sense of connection between the characters in the book, and the music we know.
As I remember, music is first mentioned abought page 100, and harp not long after that. There is much of the tormented, p*ssed musician towards the end. In all a good novel but if you want to read abought traditional Irish music, you can do no better than Last Nights Fun.
The closest Brian gets to ITM is living on the hill next to Molloy, in seclusion, around Old Head in Mayo. His old mate Frank (rip) liked a good session.
Anyone read this?
Anyone read this?
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Turlough-Brian-Keenan/dp/009947431X/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1200590341&sr=1-5
Just wanted to know if any bookworm / session.orgers had read this and if it was worth a read?
Regards
JH

Re: Anyone read this?
Good read as a novel, but not completely true to the facts of Carolan's life as far as they are known, and not much of interest about his music.

Re: Anyone read this?
It's a fascinating read but a bit tortured and dour.

Read it a few years ago. I found it very dull.
