If "m d" said his fiddle "needs repaired" the odds are good that he's from Pennsylvania, USA (or thereabouts)

Yes, everything needs repaired in Pennsylvania... but in western PA they can fixit with a gumband. In Philly, they take it downthe shore to the shop wid da sign.
