..lately! i've been in the trad scene for years listening to everything from martin hayes to flook and from padraig rynne to seamus egan. aynway.. i was at a gig of this band called choonz. anybody ever heard of them? seems to be a recent thing.. but it was absolutely amazing! this is fiddle and guitar at its best topped with some low whistle improvisation.. gorgeous!
highly recommend going to a gig if you ever come across one!
was just gonna see if anybody seen them too and what you thought of them?
hey mick... no i used to be on the session.org quite regularly but i forgot my old account details.
thats them.. i really like their stuff and live it was just thrilling!
cheers
Good stuff, when you're in the mood for that improv, slightly fusion, "contemporary trad" sound. Always a joy to hear kids half my age play like they've been doing it twice as long as I have.
I've heard them in Zurich - young and *very* talented musicians! One day nobody will believe that they played here in pub with just four people coming in to listen...
saw a choonz gig..
saw a choonz gig..

Re: saw a choonz gig..
No, I haven't seen them.
Tried a Google search, but choonz.com appears to have nothing to do with Irish music (to save you all the trouble).

In fairness (sorry sarah--I had doubts, when I saw that first site--we sometimes get spam here):
http://www.myspace.com/choonzmusic
Nice stuff--very lively!

I particularly liked the Women of the Beer track.

Re: saw a choonz gig..
Very nice indeed. The song I listened reminded me of the band Grada. I will have to check them out some more. Thanks.

Re: saw a choonz gig..
Yeh Davy is one hell of a fiddle player, definitely sold his soul to be able to play like that!
