Well, rob,
An A or E whistle would see that right, they do exist though rare
With the pipes I guess you'd either have to try a different style of pipes, say smallpipes in A, or?...
A mix would be allright huh? G nat, so.....
Yeah I know, I play it on a D whistle,
Rob you have a point, but if you were playing with another tuner you could just duck out for a moment while swapping. http://www.sweetheartflute.com/killoury has a whistle with a key, not sure what key. but it dont cost a penny!, gulp....
No, that a low D, there is only the blackwood one, make an order if you can afford it? I know its expensive but most serious instruments cost several hundred dollars.. whistlers can get by just spending 20 but.....
One of the best whistlers I ever saw was in a pub in Dublin. The instrument in question was an out-of-the-rack D Generation. It wasn't you, jig. It was a young lady. I asked her about the whistle and she said it was all she ever used. She was blissfully unaware of dearer models or tweaked whistles, and to be honest she didn't need to be.
Jig,
Its not going to work with the link you posted no matter how long you try looking around.
Many times over the past couple of years, I've voiced my disdain for these sets at these discussions.
I feel its like a cheap trick. Trying to make something exciting that is already pulsing, and alive and already.....well, exciting...It's like painting over cracks that don't need to be painted over.
Let me say to keys 05, that I am in no way trying to come across cocky, at all, and you should enjoy every minute of playing them - thats all that counts. I like it sometimes, but I think if overused, its cheap.
I have for years looked for ways to describe this phenomenon, Think of X Factor, when they reach the final chorus of the song, even better - Cue Westlife to stand up from their stools - Love it.
I think I'm going to make a youtube compilation.
Thats a lie - but I wish somebody would.
I normally start and finish in the same key, as i have said on this forum before. It keeps things simple for the backer, And i have spent enough time as a backer to consider them . I am not saying that my way is the way, obviously. but I am happy and it works for me.
I spend time backing a fella who goes through key changes like My son goes through candy, hardly enough time to chew one before he is eating/playing the next flavour.! But although he is well known I find it a bit too unsettling, i prefer to enjoy a tune, [wring it for all its worth? ]
Saying that , the pinch of snuff has as many gear changes as you might need, and that 4men and a dog polka set. I think wisely used and spareingly it is a valid and useful tool.
I think yer man on the site above has'nt got much better to do than criticise others, I wonder does he play? has he tried to inspire the audience after a hard week on the road? if not perhaps he might like to try it...then tell us that he is above such 'tricks' but yes hugo i agree, it is a trick...one I am not fond of. but each to there own.
Maybe if things are going a little too well, and everybody's starting to get a bit over the top, you might shift keys down a tone or two to cool things off a bit.
Thanks for the link to gearchange.org. I was disappointed they didn't have Me and Bobby McGee on there--one of the all-time great truck driver gear change songs (and it has the added bonus of featuring a truck driver in the lyrics, too).
2 best reels
2 best reels
i am looking for a great lively set of 2 reels! Preferably easily playable on all instruments and if possible, the second tune in A maj.
Thanks!

Re: 2 best reels
how do you plan on playing a tune in A on a whistle or pipes? it wouldn't be to fun trying to half hole the G#.

There was something funny at ;http://www.gearchange.org/%22 ?
Oh well, must have missed it had a look round but......I suppose it takes all sorts to make the world go round

Re: 2 best reels
I_Fel-
If you can find a whistle with a G# key, please tell me, I'd love to have one.
Jig-
that would be fine but I dont see how someone could change whistles fast enough to play two tunes consecutivley.
I suppose the ultimate solution would be to learn flute and invest a couple grand into one with keys ;)

Re: 2 best reels
High Reel is A mix. G natural not sharp.
