Hello All,
have been listening to the cd "Setting Sail" -- a wonderful compilation of both sean-nos singing and tunes -- and discovered this lovely track by Sean Ryan. A google search reveals no records or cds extant by him [only s.r. the whistle player]. Does anyone know if there are/were any? And if so, where? [perhaps only rare-vinyl dealers or some such....?] Any leads would be welcome
Re: sean ryan, the fiddler, any recordings available?
Seán recorded an album for Avoca a long time ago which is unlikely ever to be reissued on CD. His only other album was issued by Outlet in the early 1970s and subsequently reappeared on CD (PTICD 1012 - Seán Ryan, Kathleen Ryan and Pat Lyons – Back Home to the Cliffs of Moher). The Outlet label has been defunct for some years.
Just a reminder, but my website does feature the most extensive discography of Irish music releases on the Net - http://www.irishmusicreview.com.
Re: sean ryan, the fiddler, any recordings available?
There was a duet LP of himself and fluter P.J. Moloney - made in the late 1950s I believe. No accompaniment, lovely playing altogether. Try to find a copy, it's magic.
Wasn't there also a 1960s record of Sean Ryan and Paddy O Brien of Nenagh? I never heard that one though.
There may be a clip of him playing on the first Come West Along the Road video compilation (VHS).
