On occasion, a song is song at a session I attend. Recently, I heard The Black Velvet Band and I've found the lyrics and key, but I feel like I'm missing some chords in the first two lines.
It doesn't show up in the tune listing - probably because it's a song.

Does anyone have chords for it.
So far C/G/Am
On occasion, a song is sung at a session I attend. Recently, I heard The Fields of Athenry.
It doesn't show up in the tune listing - probably because it's a song.
Does anyone have chords that clash with it so I can make it stop?
Actually I'm just grumpy. These songs are wonderful in and of themselves, but they're like those clever advertisements on TV. After seeing/hearing them tens of thousands of times you want to push the Mute button.
How do you play guitar when it's suspended at your knees like that? That's not how Christopher Parkening showed us. There'll be great business at the chiropractors in ten years or so.
After winning my spurs by accompaning the carol-singing in the shopping centre with my amped-up acoustic guitar, I was offered the chance to play on Christmas morning, but the piano chords didn't quite match with my guitar chords. Is there any way I can get a piano to shut up ?
To answer the original question.........
I don't think, if you get three guitarists together, they will agree on the chording fo any accompaniment. But some people above could have been more helpful, and not extracted the urine.
"Black Velvet Band", unaccompanied, or even with chords, is IMHO improved if you ditch the original words, and use the words from the monologue "Albert and the Lion" instead...... provided that the folk police don't catch you.
Happy New Year to all,
Keith

Probably F is the missing choid, if you are playing in C.
And ignore much of the above, some people on this site hate to admit that they do not know.

Grego,
If that's an apology - thanks. I just heard a group play this last weekend and I got their CD and really liked it.
I went on YouTube and saw a version by Dropkick Murphys that will wake you up. Very untraditional version.

The chiropractor - I hope these guys have good vocal coaches. They are going to have no vocal chords left in a few years.
Actually - they are a pretty big band in Boston. Don't know if you watch the Red Sox, but they play "Tessie" and "I'm Shipping up to Boston."

I saw a vocal coach go over a cliff, unfortunately, there were some spare seats on it.
