I hope it's ok to submit this kind of question in this forum.
I am hoping to find a room for rent for a decent price somewhere reasonably close to the hospital in Galway.
I am a medical student from Uppsala, Sweden who intend to study with an exchange programme during my surgery term. This will be a year from now, but I want to pop the question well well ahead .
I plan to be in Galway from late January to early May of 2009.
Whenever I'm not studying I plan to explore the session culture of Galway and the surrounding counties.
Therefore it would be ideal to stay with someone who allready lives there and could introduce me to all of your favourite places.
Seriously doubt if this will get any useful replies. I would suggest you look at http://www.nuigalway.ie/accommodation_office/
and then, having found suitable accommodation go and find some sessions. Galway is a relatively small city ( Certainly smaller than Uppsala, so don't deprive yourself of the thrill of exploration.
hey K Sporre,
i went to university in NUI Galway, and have to say that you should have a good time. try to join or go to a few evenings run by the Trad Society ( Trad Soc) in NUI Galway...students playing trad usually to a high standard. i think that thwey meet Wednesday or Thursday evening in Monroe's Tavern or Richardson's Bar.
Sessionwise, its a bit of a hit and miss affair, as most sessions tend to be dominated by semi or fully professional players. This can sometimes seem like a clique...but persevere.
As to accomodation, it all depends on your budget. Hazel Park in the Newcastle area of the city is popular with the students(fairly modest rent); about 10-15minutes walk from the college and hospital. Would reccommend having a look at the website for the Galway Advertiser (google itas Galway Advertiser). this is a weekly free newspaper, which has extensive classified advertisements for accomodation in the town.
Finally, I hope that you will enjoy our fair city!!
Regards,
Rockman
