my answer to `millionyears_bc´: it was interesting to hear that you alternate between the tenor and the 5-string. I do the same, not for playing with singers but depending on the tune I want to play. I don´t, however, use the 5-string for ITM but for tunes which clearly are American/Appalachian in origin, like e.g. the `Twin Sisters`-
version I found here. The reason I´m experimenting around with tenor banjo tunings is probably that I was so used to playing in different tunings on the 5-string - which had been my first instrument.
I'm not the world's best 5 string player - in fact I'm not very good at all, but it's a great instrument for songs. The only (very few) dance tunes I play on it are for square dances.
