Finland Sessions

Finland Sessions

My name is Brent Cassidy of Oulu, Finland. If you live in the nearby area and are interested in starting an Irish music band or if you have a band and need a bodhran player, please contact me. I am eager to play and love the music and hope to play more often as it is too long to wait for the summers in Ireland as my only opportunity to play.

In Oulu, I have been organizing monthly sessions where we have come together to play at St.Michael's Pub. It has been a lot of craic. If you are also interested in joining in the sesssions, please contact me. My goal is twice a month, for now. I also hope to help with others get more awareness to Irish music. Thanks and feel free to contact me.. B

Re: Finland Sessions

Are you competing in the All Ireland for the most northerly session?

Re: Finland Sessions

Hello, no, I am not competing for the most northernly session in the all Ireland Fleadh and wasn't aware of this type of competition. Although, Oulu, where I live is located 250 km from the Arctic Circle!

My friend, who plays whistle/uillean pipes and me-bodhran/whistle, will be playing in sessions in Donegal and Sligo before heading to the Fleadh in Clonmel in August 22-24 to hopefully play in several sessions and listen to good Irish music.

Re: Finland Sessions

I suppose your friend's Donegal sessions would be more eligble for that category in the All *Ireland*, since Oulu is clearly not in Ireland. I have heard of an Irish session in Anchorage, Alaska - but I checked my map, and Oulu is even futher north than that.

Re: Finland Sessions

As far north as Oulu is, I know for a fact that there have been sessions in Rovaniemi, a bit farther north. Although, ours in Oulu are on a regular basis and we have 3 active bands and I am trying to start another one.

Re: Finland Sessions

It sounds like a secure second place, though.
