Toyota school of music

An alternative to the Suzuki method perhaps?

Re: Toyota school of music

But slainte, they play just like....robots!

However, no noodling and they always play in tune. And so well-behaved!

Re: Toyota school of music

Personally, I'd advocate the Morris Traveller School of Music.

Students are encouraged just to trundle along at a rolling pace, avoiding all fast tunes and sudden changes of speed while learning just when to press the floor button for those subtle key alterations.

Devotees of the MT method learn how to maintain their instruments without any need to call upon parts' stockists or repair shops. The piping class, for instance, provides a wealth of information regarding the replacement of drones with sawn-off bamboo chair legs and regulators with unnecessary components of central heating systems. Qualified MT fiddlers come to learn that a tennis racquet and Stanley knife are essential accoutrements while flute players soon realize that a slipping silver ring can be quickly replaced by woven hairs plucked from an Airedale Terrier (canine not included in MT school fees).

Added to all these essential skills are the joys of learning to recognize the various fungal forms growing within one's instrument (and selecting the correct ones to ingest) while devotees depart the school knowing that the musty, slightly woody odour accompanying them is a far more valuable reward than any competitor's certificate.

Re: Toyota school of music

you know, after watching the video, one could even say that the tune the robot played was even somewhat musical...I expected a midi type of sound, but the programmers varied teh bow speed, but some phrasing into the playing..all in all a great view of what simple bow speed can do.

Re: Toyota school of music

They even got it doing a little bit of vibrato. I'm not sure whether that was being done mechanically - the streaming video was starting to break up in places - but I'd have thought that would be an interesting engineering problem. However, perhaps it could be done more easily by software applied directly to the sound (I understand Autotune has a vibrato function, for example).
Now I'd like to see a robot string quartet convincingly playing Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusik - that would show that they have indeed "arrived".

Re: Toyota school of music

The music sounded fine, but I couldn't understand a word it said.

Re: Toyota school of music

They wouldn't get into my session, that's for sure. I've heard they're really tight when it comes to buying rounds of drinks. And they're SO arrogant. Just cos they don't suffer from nerves.
A good kick in the diodes, that's what they'd get from me. Then you get accused of cruelty to androids, and that you're a life-ist pig.

Playing "Land of Hope and Glory"? A butcher's apron tune, that one. It wouldn't get through the door of the Blythe. Gehh...
