I've stumbled across a tune in O'Niells called Farewell To Erin which is not the well known Farewell to Ireland but which may have possibilities! Unfortunately I only have Miles Krassens version of the book and I've already learned not to trust it so, does anybody know the tune I'm talking about and if so, do they have a reliable transcrition of it or better still know who may have recorded it?
Thanks,
Paul.
I think I know the tune you're talking about. I came across it in the book "Irish Tin Whistle Legends" by Tommy Walsh.
The tune is listed along with some others associated with Sean Potts, so that might be a good starting point for trying to find a recording of the tune. Sean Potts used to be a member of The Chieftains before going on to join Baker's Well.
I don't like to submit any tunes I can't actually play myself, so I'll endeavour to learn the tune and if nobody else has submitted it by then, I'll add it to The Session.
By the way, I know what you mean about the Miles Krassen version of O'Neill's. I find the tunes are so over-ornamented in one style as to make the book almost useless.
O'Neill's features the better known 'Farewell to Erin' under the title 'Farewell to Ireland'. The other tune is a fine one too. De Danann played it on their first album. Although they are quite distinct tunes, one being in D major, the other in A minor, I suspect they may be distantly related - listen to their general shape and structure.

Thank's Jeremy I'd appreciate it if you checked it out, meanwhile I'll try to find a Sean Potts recording if I can.
Paul.
