bledsoeo - Apart from the second-time ending of the B-part, your transcription differs very little from the version of Eddie Kelly's posted here. The second ending does sound influenced by Donnybrook Fair, but the tune as a whole is unmistakeably the same tune as http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display.php/725.
Phantom - You must have your glasses on inside-out.
My money's on Eddie Kelly's, even before this little experiment.
I took all four tunes as transcribed on this site, stripped out all of the notes except the ones that fall on the beats (1st note of each half measure), expanded them to 64 beats each, writing out each part with alternate endings explicitly, whether or not the endings are actually different, and importing it into Excel. Then I checked how often each one agreed with each other one. Same notes an octave apart were considered the same, though I don't think that happens often. Here are the results:
Need to Identify agrees with Eddie Kelly's 88% of the time
Need to Identify agrees with Donnybrook Fair 61% of the time
Need to Identify agrees with Brid Harper's 47% of the time
Eddie Kelly's agrees with Donnybrook Fair 50% of the time
Eddie Kelly's agrees with Brid Harper's 50% of the time
Donnybrook Fair agrees with Brid Harper's 39% of the time
Looking just at the A parts, the pairwise comparisons in the same order are 100%, 63%, 50%, 63%, 50%, and 38%.
Looking at just the first time through the B parts, the comparisons are 81%, 56%, 44%, 38%, 50%, 38%.
Looking at just the second time through the B parts, the comparisons are 69%, 63%, 44%, 38%, 50%, 44%.
The idea of looking only at notes on the beat was first suggested to me by Liz Doherty, who used a similar approach to indexing the tunes in O'Neill's books for an undergraduate project.
I just looked at the link to the tune at the top of this thread for Eddie Kelly's and realized I have a completely different tune with that title. I assumed it was what you were talking about, but now I can see it's much different than what I expected it to be. Maybe I'll post the ABCs to the tune I thought you were talking about.
So which tune is this? Would a vote help?
So which tune is this? Would a vote help?
Hi all - I was transcribing a session tune I heard recently and I came across 2 possible tunes which it might be:
1) Eddie Kelly's Jig http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display/725
2) Donnybrook Fair - http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display/26
Now - my flavor of this puzzle is in a minor mode like Eddie Kelly's, but has a B section more like Donnybrook Fair.
I'd like to post the transcription, but I can't figure out where...
Ideas anyone?

Re: So which tune is this? Would a vote help?
If someone started it in a session I would not think Donnybrook Fair (first or second parts). Definitely Eddie Kellys IMHO.

Definitely Eddie Kelly's. It's not in Dmix though.

slainte, did you look at the tune I posted right above your last post? It's closer than either of the ones suggested.

Re: So which tune is this? Would a vote help?
Good comment Gary, I've used the same basic approach to linking similar tunes in a database...

Re: So which tune is this? Would a vote help?
Wow...I never would have thought of using correlation theory on this problem.
Eddie Kelly's it is then.
Thanks again!
