A great performer and a wonderful character.I saw him live years ago and one of the things he said was "I feel sorry for teetotallers, when they wake up in the morning it's the best they're going to feel all day."
If Noel Murphy said it, he said it.
(Dean Martin may also have said it.)
Or are you saying that dafydd actually saw Dean Martin live, but thought it was Noel Murphy?
Aye, true enough, and I agree about probabilities, but dafydd remembers Noel Murphy saying it and quoted him.
What makes you say the folk club was dreary, or is that probability based?
No, but remembering them from the '60's ( hey, I go back 4-TWO years ) they were dingy - poor lighting, wreathed and stained by tobacco smoke, and with a lot of bad big-brewery beer ( certainly in London ).
I'd have thought Noel went back a year or two earlier than that anyway, trying to remember which club and where and when I first saw him in.
And there are still clubs about, often smaller, but the musical standard gets higher and higher. If you miss the clubs, go to the festivals - the spirit is still there.
And don't forget the time Dean Martin got a car-phone, when they were just new and very expensive, and phoned up Frank Sinatra, car-to-car; "Hullo, Frank, this is Dean, phoning you from my car."
"Hullo Dean, can you hold on a moment, my other phone's going....".

Celebrating 42 years on the folk scene
Just heard Noel Murphy is releasing a compilation CD containing 41 tracks dating back to 1968. A couple of nice banjo tracks featuring Davy Johnstone.

Re: Celebrating 42 years on the folk scene
what's more likely?
Noel Murphy saw Dean Martin on the telly?
Dean Martin went to some dreary folk club?

Re: Celebrating 42 years on the folk scene
But anyway, don't feel bad. Dean Martin probably nicked it of someone. Or more likely, payed a joke writer for it.
