Does anyone know of any singers or singing teachers living in the Midwest? There seems to be huge store of musicians but not many (if any) singers. i've heard of Virginia Blankenhorn out of Detroit but she apparently moved to Ireland a few months back.
Yes, Virginia Blankenhorn used to live in the Detroit area but moved to Ireland maybe 2 or 3 years ago. Try the Irish Music School in Chicago if that's where you're located, as suggested above.
i know this answer isnt what you're looking for, but why not get some good cd's? i would recommend joe heaney as the perfect basis for a good, old style singing ( http://www.folkmusic.net/htmfiles/webrevs/cefcd051.htm ).
A little bird called Darren Moloney said there was a conversation on here about me! Yes, I'm Brian Hart and I'm a singer (All-Ireland Champ and hoorah!) and I live part time in Chicago and St. Louis. I'm teaching at a few places: Old Town School of Folk Music, Irish Music School of Chicago, Murphy-Roche Comhaltas branch, Folk Music School of St. Louis and the St Louis Irish Arts Comhaltas branch. If you're interested in lessons or as daiv suggested good sources, I'd be delight to help. I also help run a festival in Milwaukee called Sean-nós Milwaukee. Google it or shoot me an email: ohairt@yahoo.com. Happy singing agus ná dean nós 's ná bris nós a mhacín!

I believe your bio says you're living in Chicago--check out the Irish School of Music:

Brian Hart teaches singing in Irish and English--he's a great singer.
