Does anybody know the brand of string with the blue/black and red spiral thread winding at the bottom? I was trying out some fiddles and this one fiddle had this set and the playability and responsiveness of the string set was simply delightful. The dealer couldn't remember the brand, so I thought I'd ask here...
Ohhh...Tough call.
It helps to know the colours at both the tailpiece end
and the peg end.
Give this link a try - it's a handy "string IDer" based on
instrument and colour code. http://www.quinnviolins.com/qv_stringidsearch.shtml
thanks -they are obligato. On a side note, I switced the e-string on the fiddle when it broke (I ended up buying the fiddle) and there was a difference. The dominants I normally used didn't sound as nice as the original obligato e-string...I guess those strings simply match that fiddle. thanks all!

Re: fiddle string brand?
In my experience: huge chance that it was the fiddle that did it, more than the strings.....
But of course I wasn't there.
