Breton flute player Sylvain Barou discovered that his lap top computer was missing when he landed in Paris after the Ennis trad fest. He believes it could only have been stolen from the W Co. Hotel in the town. If anyone hears anything please drop me a line.
About to suggest that myself, Wurzel. My son's guitar and case went that way. And the air insurance pay by weight, say £20 per kilo or something. Not a lot of use if it was an old John Lennon or Elvis guitar, or one of my drums.
Backer, lets get one thing straight, there has been no allegation made by me at all.
The hotel room is simply the last place he had it. Tell me what is dangerous with passing this message on. Jaysus, you try to help and there's always one. Read my initial message!!!!
And by the way, I stayed at said hotel who charged me Euro 200 a night and it was a sh*t hole. Now, you can put me on the record for that observation.
So, he discovered it was missing when he got back to France? he doesn't recall packing it? or carrying it? he didn't notice it was missing before he left the hotel room? you know, a black laptop bag? he could'nt possibly have left it in a taxi? on a bus? He checked a laptop in?! with a hard drive? consigned to airport porters?! or he had it in his carry on? I don't know one way or the other but it seems a little premature to name and shame dont you think?
If it were stolen do you think they are going to be reading here and think damn my conscious cries out! i must return that laptop I purloined! If he does'nt remember packing and transporting a valued piece of expensive equipment why not? didnt he notice it was missing?
No one is criticizing you for trying to help a friend, but lets be reasonable here.
>>I stayed at said hotel who charged me Euro 200 a night and it was a sh*t hole<<
Why did you stay then? 200e a night! jeez
I hope i dont offend you with my comments or questions.
Jaysus Iwerzon, 200 euros gets you three nights B and B and evening meal in any hotel in Westport, which is expensive. Special offers yes, but they are on all the time.
Hi iwerzon, thanks for your initial message ! (is it you Paul ?)
I am regularly in contact with the airport police and the hotel.
Finally I don't think that it happened at the hotel, with their magnetic cards they have a tracking of everytime it is used and I couldn't forget such a thing there. Unless somebedy managed to enter the room illegaly on Sunday without the card. (it is a bit dangerous to accuse the staff of the hotel as much as it is too dangerous for them to do such a thing, they could loose their job immediately and have a big fine)
The laptop (a 17" inch MacBook Pro) was stolen on its own, nothing else.
When I left there were also heavy things in my carry on bag (flutes, microphones, cables, etc...) this is why I didn't notice that the laptop wasn't in the bag anymore, even at the security they didn't ask me to put it out of the case. I only noticed that it was missing when the flight arrived in Beauvais.
So it could have been stolen either during or after the security check or in the plane while I was sleeping !!
Anyway, I still have my flutes which is the most important thing...
Sorry to hear of your loss, Sylvain. Glad you enjoyed the trad fest. I hope it was insured but i know none of my gear is so.....We must simply bear these things with good fortitude.
Good luck

Re: Lap Top Stolen at Ennis
Thats a pity, but if I may add it's a little bit dangerous to make an allegation like that.

I never liked Ennis, the home of capitalism.

Apart from that I had good fun at Ennis Trad !
