Shetland Radio on the Web

For some great performances of Shetland music, click on http://www.visitshetland.com/media-centre/ and then go to 60NorthFM.

Enjoy!

Re: Shetland Radio on the Web

I clicked on it at 9:40 EST, hit the Trad/ Contemporary bar, and got what my Orkney wife said sounded like Conway Twitty. She now suspects Garth Brooks is probably well-received there. ;-)

Is there a time of day for more trad than contemporary?

She also made some reference to Willie Nelson that I did not quite catch... Sigh.

Re: Shetland Radio on the Web

Yikes! I have never come across anything like that. Guess we'll have to keep trying.

Re: Shetland Radio on the Web

As it says on the website, it is *tourist* radio. I had a listen today. There seemed to be an hour-long programme on continuous play - i.e. the same broadcast repeating every hour - and this was basically an advert to encourage tourists to visit Shetland. Perhaps that's just the way it works on Sundays. Anyway, that said, there was some nice music - some of it trad, some more contemporary - some interesting bits of history and some beautiful Sheltand dialect.

Re: Shetland Radio on the Web

I logged on today and got some very Country Western stuff. Fortunately, it was brief, and soon a gang of fiddlers was playing "Tame Her When the Snow Comes." Wish there were better announcements of the tunes and the players. Maybe there's another Shetland radio station somewhere on the Web.

BTW, I'm going to Fiddle Frenzy 2008 in Lerwick if they'll have me!
