I have been ambivalent to past discussions on the effects of changing usernames.
A significant landmark for me was realizing that it took weeks or months before I was able to accredit cheshire puddy tat with Will Harmon's stature.
This week, however, I experienced instant gratification and a warm, fuzzy feeling.
Zina's back! Zina's back! (No need for additional research to identify her voice).
I apologize for any inconvenience. I just got tired of seeing my name kicked around, or posts jumped on because of *who* posted, not *what* was posted.
Zina is her real name, and her online personality is pretty much what you get in person. I met her through this site, we've visited each other's homes and families, and we've been good friends since.
Do you still juggle? I'm pretty sure I read in one of your previous bios that you were a juggler. I don't practice any more (haven't for quite a few years now), but back in the day I was damn solid on a 6' passing clubs, doing 5 balls w/tricks.... I juggled a LOT, performed a little and had a bunch of fun passing clubs with people from all over the planet.
Just used you as an example, Will! With 40,000 names, it would be easier if they were consistent.
Especially if one's memory is less predictable than it used to be......
This time it took me about 0,01 seconds to realise that 'the will formerly known as CPT' is Will Harmon. Probably because there's 'will' in it. In an old thread where people wondered where all the 'oldies' had gone, some one pointed out that Will at taht time still was around under the name of whoosis. I missed that combination completely (also because his posts became shorter and less recognizable than in the past), and since then I regularly check member's profiles to see who's who. Not too bad to read member's profiles anyway!
It doesn't seem to work because you each figure out who you are pretty quickly. And it's easy enough to go back to old posts and see the new name where the old one used to be.
With a little backtracking, it would appear that you lived in London, with at least one trip to Ireland, and now live in Wales. Serious/helpful enough to submit some tunes and sessions. Perhaps choose the name Modesty for the next change?
I still can't identify you with any other character, and still have 39,988 others to deal with, so your time is up.
Wait, you're saying that Cheshire Puddy Tat was *Will Harmon* this whole time???
Maybe we should have an "oldies" day where everybody goes back to their most long-standing nickname just for a day... That way, we can see all the old-timers that we *haven't* figured out, and see that they're still around... (Zina not being one of them - I'm sure that must have just been an extended drive-by)
And I have never tried it, but I hope that Jeremy is smart enough to keep track of old nicknames, and not let someone else have them. Years ago, I used to do a lot of IRC, and every now and then, one of the chatrooms would get into a "nick war", where everyone was switching to other peoples' nicknames and such, and it was all horribly annoying... (hmmm, I wonder if Cheshire Puddy Tat is available!?)
Pbbbttthhht to you, Pete. *chortle* Hello, oldstrings, dear!
Well, I probably won't post much while I'm on extended holiday. (The deal is, when the money is gone, I go home.) I just happen to be somewhere where I actually have net access for an extended period, see.
And I think Sunnybear knows very well who I am. Even though we've never met in meatspace...hmmm, must change that. I DID get to meet Guernsey Pete today, although regrettably I didn't get to talk to him for very long, because we got an SOS to play at a session that evening, and had to rush out of his jam to get fiddles and get to the thing in time...
GPete, WHO is that girl with that VOICE?! She's magnificent!

Will, now you've gone and removed the clue to getting Jon Kiparsky's cryptic joke about a cheesy dessert inked on a hipster's back.

Where there's a Will...
I'm on my fifth username, and I always get rumbled within a day or so.

Re: Name Changes Revisited
For a day or so it wasn't 'the will formerly known as CPT'. It was just "will harmon".
I don't understand why you guys change your names.

Should I change my name to Low Profile or is that a contradiction in terms?
