Why your monicker?

Why your monicker?

What does your session name mean and why do you use it?
Me?
Key Maniac Lad?
Simple - anagram of my real name. Also it is kind of fitting...the Maniac bit, sadly no longer the Lad bit.
Next please?

Re: Why your monicker?

Mehitabel is a cat in one of my favourite poetry anthologies (archy and mehitabel) http://www.donmarquis.com/readingroom/archybooks/coming.html

2 is a good number: everything God created is a duality, heaven and earth, sea and land, male and female.

3 is also a good number, being the number of the holy trinity, also as it is written in ecclesiastes "A three-string cord is hard to break"

Re: Why your monicker?

That's a question an interesting question for an ignoramous like myself. I used to go by Celtic Fiddler. You can probably imagine the flack I got from that. I just started using my own name.

Interesting how much damage you can do to search engines by using your own name. On one hand, you risk identity theft. On the other hand, your old friends tend to find you which I found to be immeasureably cool.

Re: Why your monicker?

ahh, mehitabel23, I always figured you were just saying "me hittable", it's like wearing a sign that says "kick me" ;-) (j/k)

Reverend Pete is my nickname that materialized in the early 1990s when I was a DJ at a popular alternative rock station. The radio station was doing an advance listening party for the band Ministry's album Psalm 69 (they're speed-metal industrial, for those of you that don't know). The listening party was taking place at a nightclub I owned at the time, so naturally, I was the "air personality" that was going to be at the event. The promo gal at the time wrote up an on-air promo for the DJs to read about the event, and she tried to get cute... Ministry... Psalm 69... "and we're sending our own 'reverend', Pete". Well, needless to say, all the other DJs started calling me Reverend Pete, and the name stuck.

KML, much less pot stirring with this thread - good thinking :-)

I'm actually curious how many long-time members here have never changed their moniker. Most of you have. I can think of a couple who haven't <raising hand and waving>

Pete

Now why did I choose Welshman? Now .. let's think. Tricky - could it be because. Nah - that would be waaay too easy.

Re: Why your monicker?

The explanation for my moniker is in my details file. However, now when I go to a session, they no longer say "jusa nutter eejit" - they say - "learn some new tunes fer feck's sake." That's a bit too wordy for a moniker...

# Posted on November 8th 2007 by Jusa Nutter Eejit

Re: Why your monicker?

Much nicer anagram of what I really am, just a bluudy 'old scraper' (my old monicker) from out the back of beyond, way behind the proverbial black stump, who yearns the taste of some 'clear drops' of the good stuff. The stars in the night sky are bluudy perfect tonight, just so you know, and I've got a lovely clear view.

Re: Why your monicker?

My monicker is a fiendishly clever, completely unbreakable code for my real name, because anonimity (read "deniability") is important to me.

OK, it's just a spoonerism (look it up). Which would be more fun if my name were Forrest Tucker.

Re: Why your monicker?

When I first started attending sessions I tended to play to fast and after a while when I would take off people would say, "Look out he's flyin' again!" and the name "Flyin' Fiddler" stuck.

I have gotten much better at paying attention to tempos but from time to time when someone kicks into the likes of Paddy's trip to Scotland, Splendid Isolation, Julia Delainy or some such fun one I just can't help myself.

I like to use my own name whenever possible on any site I join. When I came here, Alan was already taken, so I use the Celtic spelling, Ailin.

Never have changed the name I've used on any site.

My screen name more or less describes my general attitude towards life, the universe and everything – which a physicist would probably describe as an example of the Principle of Least Action. It's not an uncommon screen name, so I haven't been able to use it as such on one or two other websites.

Steve - if you want to hijack this thread in the direction of 'armonicas, feel free.....when you mentioned it, the words Monica and Lewinski and mouth and organ all sprung to mind, but fortunately for the lifespan of my membership on this family site, I couldn't think up anything witty enough by which to string all those words together.........

Re: Why your monicker?

Well, Danny, if you were really looking hard for anagrams, you could also have picked 'maniacal dyke', 'lacked any aim' (ouch!), 'ace kid layman', 'malady in cake', 'daily cake man' (a personal favourite), 'leaky acid man' (well, I wouldn't deal with you) and several others which are rather revolting. Any chance of that review you promised to write?

CBC used to have a well-loved radio host called Peter Gzowksi - pronounced "Zoski". Naturally, when Greg was taken, the Gz thing leapt to mind. .gz is also my favorite file extension (a version of .zip), as it allows me to sneak attachments past my employer's email filters.

I went to the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, home of the Tar Heels and became a huge college basketball fan there.

My brother attended a nearby, lesser institution (UNC-G) and liked to call me "Dirty Heel"

i got my first Yahoo! account that way, and it's pretty much been my online moniker for the past 12 years.

most people don't get it and think it's somehow "dirty" in another sense.

oh bother.

There are many ravens where I live.I watch them most days.I needed a name when i changed ISP.I was reading an excellent and fascinating little book by Bernd Heinrich titled "Mind of the Raven - investigations and adventures with wolfbirds" The raven was once called wolfbird in Scandinavia and by Native Americans
because wolves and ravens cooperate and communicate. Both species are highly intelligent with astonishingly sophisticated behaviour that very few people are aware of.Communication between species is something that I like to study.Okay?

Re: Why your monicker?

KML, the problem with threads like this, while they may be a bit less controversial than some other threads, is that people post in them in a drive-by way. They post, then they never come back and read the thread... There's no discussion happening here, even though, I've tried. Besides you and me, only 2 other people posted multiple times, and both times it they were back to back posts, like they forgot to say something...

So tomorrow's thread should be something halfway in between your last two threads... Something stimulating, but not controversial. Interesting, yet not going to turn into a flame-war (or discussion of the merits of sheet music) ;-)

Work on that, would ya?

Pete

Re: Why your monicker?

Monkey's just been a derogatory nickname since college. One day I just started referring to f**king idiots as monkeys instead of f**king idiots. Kept me out of trouble at the office for a while.

If you yell at me I can always reply that you obviously have a penchant for spanking...

Just plain 'monkey' was already taken so I needed a suffix. 440, is of course the frequency of an A.

I'd rather not deal with spam, identify theft, insane people and sore losers. So I don't use my real name anywhere on public sites, especially forums. The monikers are more fun anyway. This site has some of the most colorful. I seriously thought that some were really Scottish Gaelic or Irish names the first week or so...

Re: Why your monicker?

I thought it would be vaguely entertaining (at least to me) to use a tune name as a screen name. Someone beat me to "The Rambling Pitchfork," hence "The Silver Spear" was the only one coming to mind at that point that didn't sound overly trite or just dumb.

If I had to do it again or could be arsed to change my screen name, I think I'd go with the "Unfortunate Rake."
