Have you done a trawl of scholar.google? That usually throws up some interesting journal articles. It's only 357 results so you may need to dig deeper and extend your search term - but it's a start.
The best books to treat Irish music in a scholarly way are:
Folk Music And Dances Of Ireland by Breandan Breathnach (1971 Mercier Press, Cork)
(1996 Ossian Publications, London)
Traditional Music In Ireland by Tomas O Canainn
(1978 Routledge and Kegan Paul)
(1993 Ossian Publications, Cork)
Both authors are top authorities, are traditional musicians themselves, and have a deep understanding of the traditional music and the sean nos in particular.
Breandan Breathnach (RIP) is considered by many to be Irish music's greatest scholar.
