good performance sets for twin fiddles?

good performance sets for twin fiddles?

We've added a second fiddle to our group and it's become my job (oh yay) to find or create sets that would work well with two fiddles. Now, these sets would be primarily for performance, and then for dancers. While I love Altan, I am loath to just rip on of their sets and use it. Any ideas?

Listen to the Kane sisters for inspiration (and how straightforward two fiddles can be and still sound mighty):

It's less about what tunes and sets, and more about meshing your variations and "doubling" (when one person plays a part an octave lower than the other).

Re: good performance sets for twin fiddles?

One of the best fiddle duet recordings of all time has to be Andy McGann and Paddy Reynolds (backed by Paul Brady) .

I guess I am confused. There are no special tunes or arranging required for twin fiddles. Just pick something you like and have at it!

Bach's Double Violin Concerto - take the right approach and you can make it baroque around the clock :-)

The Butterfly played as a round.

Any shetland tunes.

Tunes that can be played in two octaves simultaneously..

The Battle of Yellow Ford is a good one, I'm sure you can come up with a coule more for a set.
