G'day all,I was'nt sure where to post this,so I threw caution to the wind and decided to put it here...
I've always been interested in all things Titanic and while I was reading some articles the other day, I came across some info on the band that kept on playing as the dear ship was sinking...
A common belief is that the last song played, was the hymn " Nearer my God to Thee"..This is aparently not the case.....the last tune played was a Waltz written by a bloke called Archibald Joyce in 1908 entitled "Song of Autumn".....I believe it is sometimes called "Autumn Dreams"..."Dream of Autumn" or "Songe d'Automne"...
Accounts from survivors say that the band played this tune, put their instruments down onto the deck and retreated to the stern of the great ship to meet their sad and tragic fate.....
I thought it would be nice to learn this tune and play it on my Flute but after a fairly exhaustive search on the 'net to find the music,I came up with nought......I could'nt find a sound clip either,so I dont even know what the tune sounds like....
So........could any one in our community here help me out with the Music to this tune ??? I'd be most grateful .....
Thats all for now.....regards from Oz..Zoukboy.
Thank you so much Screech,I reckon that could be it..
Seems to be to be in C minor....?? I'd love to get the sheet music to this tune....the sound clip does'nt really go for long enough to get a good listen to figure it out by ear....something will turn up,I'm sure.......I hope......
Thanks again......
So near and yet so far Donough......my computer tells me it won't play real audio files..!!!
I'll check with my brother, who's good at taht sort of thing...........thanks to you.....
mean yeh! Post an .mp3 somewhere if you get the chance. Last time I downloaded RealPlayer, it tried to take over my PC and kept popping up as default player etc., despite me setting other defaults.
Ian Whitcomb is a sometime reader where I work. He still records and performs locally in the San Gariel Valley California. He was kind enough to recommended his recording label (for mastering our first CD) to my band which subsequently signed us on. I will always be grateful to him. He's a really nice guy.
Ironically many copies of that Titanic CD (which won a Grammy BTW) were destroyed when the library basement flooded a few years ago during heavey rains. I had the task of trying to salvage what could be saved. Sort of like the Carpathian the ship that rescused what passagers survied the Titanic.
I know he's not ITM but if anyone is interested to know when Ian will next perform let me know offline. He always posts a flyer at the library I work at.

Re: Last Waltz on the Titanic...
Sooooo.....musicians have to go down with the ship? Is that in the rules? I thought it was captains and poor people only.

Zoukboy - Ref 'Songe d'Automne' If you send me your email I can email you a recording of the said tune by a Scottish country dance band.
