For a friend's upcoming recording project, I'm trying to identify a reel she learned some years ago in Durham, England. I have tried all the tricks I know to searching ABCs on this site and others, but this one has me stumped. Here's my transcription of just the A part of the tune:

You might be interested/amused though at how I found it. I've been working on ABC Navigator, to produce a user guide, and one of the features is a "find the tune from a snippet" search. So a tune I hadn't heard before was too good a test to ignore, so I entered the given data. Sure enough, it found the one mentioned, with an 8 out of 8 confidence factor, and six others with a 6 out of 8 confidence factor. (Note there are quite a few differences). Out of a file containing 14,291 tunes, and in the blink of an eye.

Thanks, Dow and Terry, you nailed it (obviously).
I had tried Googling phrases but in each case a difference of one note was, of course, enough to throw off the search.
I also used JC's "contour" search, which has saved my butt several times, but again, really minor differences did me in.
Terry, thanks for the pointer to ABC Navigator ... that finder tool sounds fantastic!
Dow, thanks for your comments on the tune in which you identify the composer and note his copyright. I'll be passing that information along.

Often times you can search the 1st two bars from TheSession HomePage.
It is much more reliable than the "Advanced" tab search under the "Tunes" link.
