Non Music Reader

Non Music Reader

I wonder if there is any software that could convert music notation
scanned to my PC and convert same to either a midi file or ABC file. I do not read music and it would help mme.
Thanks,
Dave

Re: Non Music Reader

Dave, I don't know about any software, but if you want to learn how to read sheet music, it's not as hard as you might think. Here's an online tutor that breaks it down into plain language.

You can make it even easier depending on what instrument you play--most of us melody players in Irish trad don't bother reading bass clef, just treble clef, for instance.

Re: Non Music Reader

Especially if you can already make sense of abc notation. That get's you more than halfway to understanding "the dots."

Re: Non Music Reader

1st of all ~ the human brain is best program for reading music.
There is an inherent problem with scanning. Music gets written in so many different ways.
However, sheet music which has been saved as a PDF can easily be read with a simple program. The .pdf extension is a standard format for music found online.
There is a PDF to Music program which plays back a simple MIDI.

But if you do want to learn to read music your brain is still your best bet.

Re: Non Music Reader

There is a software named Harmony Assistant that you can download from www.myriad-online.com, that actually converts music to something else when you scan it. I've only done it once and it doesn't work perfectly but it's better than nothing if you don't know how to read music.

Re: Non Music Reader

It's on the link above. In all fairness it does not work perfectly ~ but zoukgirl the human brain is more than nothing. Either way you have to learn how to do something.
