What's a great simple system flute for under a $1000
What's a great simple system flute for under a $1000
I've been playing an M and E polymer flute. I'll always hold on to it because I can leave it anywhere, even in the trunk of my car in winter. But I would like to buy a keyless wooden flute in the range of 800-1000 dollars (US) I've tried a Skip Healey and that was great. Any Others?

Try Casey Burns Flutes in Kingston, Washington. He is a great flute maker. I have a new Boxwood Rudall Rose that I love. Check him out. I think you will like his work, and he is a nice guy.

I have a deposit down for an Olwell keyless and I think it's gonna run somewhere around $1,300 USD, not sure of the exact amount. Maybe a bit more with shipping. But I'm sure it will be worth it. I think most keyless flutes in the US run around $1,200 to $1,400. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. From what I hear, they cost less in Ireland. I think Eamon's keyless flutes are under 1,000 EURO.
I've heard that Dave Copley's flutes are great and the keyless runs under $1,000. This guy lives somewhere in the midwest (US).
Here's a great Irish flute website with a list of makers:

Speaking of US Midwest, there's also Glenn Schultz of "thin weasel" fame. He makes an outsdanding flute, one of the most comfortable flutes i've ever played, for US$800.
