I was hoping some of my fellow sessionites would be able to point me in the right direct with regards to purchasing an instrument on-line. I am hoping to purchase a new melodeon soon, I have two in mind.
Which sites have you used in the past? Are they reliable?
I agree. The Button Box is a terrific source. Very reliable. Bear in mind that most melodeons are made in Europe, though, so you'd be paying the shipping cost twice if you live in Ireland. Depends what you need. If you want a brand new box, there's a lot of reliable dealers on your side of The Pond.
I bought a Castagnari box from them a while ago, they have a good selection of melodeons and accordions. They are in England but will deliver to Ireland.
Speaking of button boxes. I came across an old small two row button box the other day. C/C# The owner had it at least forty years and before that his uncle owned it for a number of years. It was called a 'Ceili Band' I have never heard of a make like that. Anybody throw some light on the maker.
bernunzio vintage instruments. i m in orkney (scotland), they re in new york. fantastic with all questions, and i asked a good few, and safe, VERY well packaged delivery. whether they have a melodeon, is another uestion , but they have assorted things, and it changes all the time, so worth a look...
well i had a look before posting, but they ve a big range of allsorts, so still worth chcking out.
I got very good service and communication from John Williams in the US but he will only ship to a US address and will only take payment by cheque from a US bank account (no VISA). Other than that, I was very happy with it. http://www.johnwilliamsmusic.com
FWIW.
Last time I was in All About Accordions in Dublin, Sean Garvey had a good selection of different boxes to try and a helpful attitude. What about Jackie Daly? does he import some too? Then there's Cairdins and Kincoras etc. Would have thought you'd be spoilt for choice in Ireland if your prepared to travel around a bit. Whatever about buying a starter instrument over the net, I think when it comes to something better, you just have to put in more effort.

I assume that with such a user name as yours, you are familiar with the site already ! Anyway, for a used box I wouldn't go anywhere else.
