HELP: Info on my old Washburn Tenor Banjo

HELP: Info on my old Washburn Tenor Banjo

I have a wonderful older 4 string tenor Washburn banjo (Stamped "Style E 3683) and I need some direction on finding out how old it is, it's qualities, styles that would fit it, value, etc.
I have had it for years (got it at a thrift-store), and am hoping to trade it for a 5-string, but i don't have any idea of it's strengths/weaknesses, value, or history. Can anyone help?
Grazie mille,
-Marcus

Re: HELP: Info on my old Washburn Tenor Banjo

You might try the Mugwumps site for info on old banjos. It may help, they have quite a collection of data, serial numbers etc. The link is http://www.mugwumps.com/

Hope it helps.

Re: HELP: Info on my old Washburn Tenor Banjo

I don't know much about the Washburns, myself, but one decent way of figuring out real value is to look at completed eBay auctions. There are two Washburn tenor banjos that have sold recently on eBay in the U.S. They both sold for (U.S.)$300-$350, which will give you at least a ballpark figure. You would have to look at those listings and compare model, condition, etc.

You might also give a shout out over at the Banjo Hangout forums. (http://www.banjohangout.org/forum/) There are some very knowledgeable people over there, who might be able to provide more information. And you might even list it up there for trade, and find someone who would trade a 5 string (not that I could figure out what you would want THAT for) ;-)

Re: HELP: Info on my old Washburn Tenor Banjo

You could post a question on the Washburn forum in the banjo and mandolin section - I got some helpful replies when I asked about a Washburn guitar on there: http://www.washburn.com/forum/default.asp .I bought a Washburn tenor banjo neck on eBay a while ago which is very nice - it's to go on a mix-and-match banjo when I have time
