Paddy Glackin's trip to Dingle

Paddy Glackin's trip to Dingle

I went to see Liz Carroll and John Doyle at the Hammersmith Irish centre at the weekend and mighty fine they were too. Anyway, one of the tunes they played was Paddy Glackin's trip to Dingle, I have had a look at the tune index and there is a tune there described as the Trip to Dingle, but it makes no mention of a Paddy Glackin connection. Does anyone know if it is the same toon or if there is another one??? I appreciate that it might be a bit difficult for those who were not there! It would also help if I could remember the tune itself, but I do remember thinking that it was mighty fine.

Also, I was surprised that the centre was not packed to the rafters for one of the tradition's finest players, there was a respectable crowd but it was by no means packed. John Doyle was a revelation on guitar, have enjoyed his stuff on the records but live you can really appreciate his leaping around the fretboard - not a bad voice either!

Thanks in advance for any thoughts

Nick

Could it have been Alan Kelly's trip to Dingle?

Re: Paddy Glackin's trip to Dingle

I am pretty sure it must have been a jig as it was played in a set with Apples in Winter, so I don't think the polka can be right (although given that this is Liz Carroll we are talking about anything is possible - for her at least!)

Re: Paddy Glackin's trip to Dingle

Yes, chances are it was a jig then! Sorry, can't be of further help!

Re: Paddy Glackin's trip to Dingle

I heard Liz Carroll play it in Dublin on Sunday. It's a reel, and the first two parts seem to be based on another reel the title of which escapes me, the third part is stuck on and suit too well in my view.

Oops! that should be:

Re: Paddy Glackin's trip to Dingle

It's a shame it wasn't a packed house. I saw them play twice live, and the time went way too fast. It's a joy to watch both of them play. I talked with Liz after the show and she seems to be a grand lady. If you don't have "Lost in the Loop" yet, it's a great CD.

Is she as well known in Ireland as in the US? I saw the band Grada play here, and was disappointed in the home town for the turnout. Maybe it's being away from your home turf, or just one of those things?

Re: Paddy Glackin's trip to Dingle

Sounds like it's either Paddy Glackin's version of Trip to Dingle or a perhaps tune Liz wrote herself. Haven't heard of either to be honest. Why don't you just email Liz through her myspace page.

Re: Paddy Glackin's trip to Dingle

Is this the tune you're looking for? The title of the video is Paddy G.'s Trip to Dingle. I heard them play it live recently as well but can't remember if this is it or not.

You wouldn't want to be going anywhere with Paddy, he can be boring.
