Maybe this is an old question, but my search of the site didn't quite help. Does anyone know of any notation/ABC of any sort of the theme of the Secret of Roan Inish? (Not Mist on the Mtns., but the theme that opens the film and runs through the movie.)
It's "The Butterfly" - one of my favorite tunes, and a slip jig at that! Just search for that title, and you'll find it. BTW, that was a great, great movie.
Tomcheer--thanks, I do know the tune you mention, but this is the track that plays with the opening credits; it's woven throughout the movie. (and yeah, the movie is one of my kids' favorites!)
Regarding the recording, I'm ok with learning the melody but need the chords.
Incidentally, this was the tune that got me hooked on Irish music to start with...when I was fiddle shopping in Ennis last december, I asked the girl at the store to play a few tunes so I could hear what the different instuments sounded like when played by someone with some actual skill (I'd only just begun at the time) and she started playing that tune. I nearly flipped out, asked he the name, if she had a recording or dots for it, anything...she directed me to this site...it's been downhill ever since.
I just looked at my CD, and it's track 3 "The Secret of Roan Inish Theme", if that helps. The link you mention above was really helpful, though, because I can add that to my list. I think this soundtrack was one of the first ITM I ever heard, which also got me 'hooked' as you say, matan_fiddler!
G'day Nola,
Another tune that featuires in this good movie is The Musical Priest..could this be it ??...and....
To that tiresome old sausage llig...have you ever given thought to the fact that some people ENJOY bringing a tune to life from the dots ???
I know I do......
i have the DVD, and the CD, but looks like everything has been said, except it is a really nice CD if you can find it, there are a number of fine flute and fiddle pieces on it. takair jb

You have a recording? Why do you need the music?

Re: Roan Inish theme
the tune you're looking for is Farrel O'Gara.

I've seen dots for it with guitar chords, if you poke around for it

Ged Foley on guitar in that version (touring with Kevin Burke and the Celtic Fiddle Festival) -- what a great movie.

Re: Roan Inish theme
IIRC there was also a double jig set consisting of "The Mist Covered Mountain" and "The Banks of Lough Gowna" in an unusual A Dorian setting.
