somebody posted a video of a guy dancing in black and white on youtube. he was a little tubby and he was jumping all over the stage in an alarming way. i have searched here and on youtube and cannot find it. any clues?
Sounds like a clip from the "River of Sound" series on Irish music that was on the telly a few years back. The dancing was more enthusiastic than beautiful, IIRC.
The one with Charlie Lennon playing the fiddle? I loved that clip! I thought he was a wonderful dancer. I've seen other footage of him -- he was the man! I know a lot of serious dancers (i'm not a dancer myself) thought a lot of him.
I agree that the dancing on the footage is lovely! It's a great example of old-style stepdancing similar to that of Joe & Siobhan O'Donovan and Patrick O'Dea. There was a teacher in Philadelphia by the name of Sean Lavin who taught the same style of dance many years ago. There are still a few of his dancers around the area and I love the grace and ease of their dancing, as opposed to the rigid precision of "Riverdance" and competition stepdancing. The video exudes the joy of dance as mentioned in the thread on dancing a few days ago. Besides the fact that the gentleman dancing is obviously on in years and still limber and agile!

Re: old guy dancing on youtube
Seems the clip has been deleted. The dancer was Paddy Ban O'Broin if I'm not mistaken.

A lovely clip and nice to see some rare footage of flute player Mick O'Connor (Fiddle player Liam's dad) playing with Charlie Lennon.

I really enjoyed that too - his dancing looks very good to me, but I don't dance a step...

Its great to see that lovely clip back up on YouTube. It was removed for 'terms of use violation' (whatever that means) a good while back.
