Open house Festival Belfast - What were your Highlights?
Open house Festival Belfast - What were your Highlights?
Seen Liz Carroll last night in the John Hewitt and she played really well, I heard her fiddle workshop was great, sooo sorry I missed it. It was nice to see her and John Doyle hanging around afterwards and chatting to everyone, no 'trad star' mentality with them.
Saw Solas on Wednesday night in the black box and they also put on a great show, very very tight.
Anybody see Tim O'Brien and Arty McGlynn? I Heard 'Firstlight' were very good to.

Missed Tim O'Brien and Arty, was late arriving to the gig, but made it in perfect time to see At First Light. Amazing as ever!
My highlight, playing a few tunes in the Duke of York on Saturday afternoon; not attending seessions as often as I used to, but really enjoying the tunes when I do!

Aye, early sessions in the Duke on Saturday were good craic. There was a great buzz around the Cathedral Quarter all weekend. Good session in the Kitchen on Thursday night aswell.
Re: Open house Festival Belfast - What were your Highlights?
I've seen O'Brien for the first time at this festival - gig was briliant - The Crossing played with two fiddles with John McCusker, and Foreign Lander where he sang and acompany himself on the fiddle incredible. I really liked the connection on the stage between O'Brien and McCusker.
I was dissapointed with At First Light for me it sounded like they didn't wanted to play that gig. Perhaps I'm wrong but I felt that way. I left before it ended and went to O'Brien's songwritting workshops - didn't learn much, I don't think I'm gonna write any songs, but it was great to listen him singing his songs just for couple of us.
After that there was just The Dukhs - lovely fiddle player Tanya - and Crooked Still - lovely singer Aoife - incredible energy of those two gigs and tongue of Dr. Liszt

Padre - You really must have been at a different gig to me and all of the people that I spoke to after it. At First Light we're pumped up and rocking and the audience responded to their fantastic music with as good an audience responce as I've seen for a long time.
