conservatory violin

conservatory violin

I also have a violin with the words "conservatory violin" written on the back of the scroll. It has no label inside, but has metal pegs with white bakelite tuners and a white tail piece. It is finished nicely, with a two piece maple back and a two piece spruce top. In researching this violin, I found a few with the same words on the back of the scroll all made in Germany early in the 1900. Conservative values were between 2 to 3 thousand dollars. I received this as a gift from a friend who got it from an auciton in Chicago. It has a very nice tone, so I will play it for a while.

Re: conservatory violin

Sounds like an interesting fiddle. Got any pics of it? You can't tell much about the value by comparing it to other conservatory violins, but if you like the tone it's a treasure.
