we once had a crowd who were having a good time dancing. Then we played a set we almost never play. Everyone got up. They were going wild. Despite what Colm Meaney said ; we were playing . . . polkas.
Sorry not much help here. The reels, polka's and jigs are all dance music, played at the correct pace. If however you have to play for crowds that dont know the dances then polkas and reels are recomended. Perhaps try to find an Irish set dance teacher? Teach a two hand reel and they will be dancin all night!

Does anyone have a good Irish dancing set, that they like to play that gets the crowd dancing?
Could you list the sougs you play.

Re: Music Set
The Kesh/Behind the Haystack is good. Some night argue that's a good place to keep the Kesh...

Re: Music Set
Dan Compton and Fran Slefer of Portland, OR play ITM for dances (I believe). There website is www.glencottagemusic.com
They do have samples of some of their recordings on there to give you an idea.
Cheers

Re: Music Set
I don't play any sougs at all. I gave up playing sougs a long time ago. They were bad for my health.
