Re: First Tune

For your first tune, I think you are doing a fantastic job! You should be proud of what you've accomplished, and keep at it!

Your rhythm is generally steady, and you have some nice ornaments placed in there.

Something you might think about working on would be to vary your breathing a bit. You tend to breathe at the same times, and in generally obvious places. Good players tend to mix up their breathing a bit, using it almost as an ornament in and of itself. And they tend to find interesting new places in a tune to do it. I think this will come naturally for you with time, but if you're aware of it from the beginning, it might come sooner rather than later. :-) It appears as though you came close to running out of breath at one point during the B part, and that was one place where you took a breath that delayed your rhythm slightly. From the (very) little whistle playing that I did years ago, I remember having that problem too, and was taught to breathe before needing it. If you get down to the last of your available breath, your notes will weaken, and your subsequent breath might take too much time.

A personal preference of mine is to also "swing" the jigs a bit more, which really is mostly lengthening the first note, and shortening the second note a bit. That can give more of a bouncy feel - if it is smoothed out too much, it doesn't make me want to dance.

Let me state that I am not really a wind instrument player at all, so take that into consideration too ;-)

I don't think I would have had the chutzpah to put a video of my first tune out for god and everybody to see... Keep up the good work!
