I don't think this is the bodhrán you mean, but he also plays one from a (take a deep breath now...) German bodhrán maker called Christian Hedwitschak. If you have a look at the references on his homepage (www.bodhranmaker.de ), there's a quote from JJK:
"I just love it ! It sounds great, I can´t get over it ! I think it´s one of the best I ever played, and I played many !"
There's also a picture, and below it it says he plays the "RolfWagelsEdition".
On the homepage, go to the bodhrán section and then to "High End Line", there you'll earn more about the drum.
All I can say is that I've played one of Hedwitschak's dragonskin drums once, and ... WOW!!! Amazing! Pity I had to give it back...
I hate being poor
my quads will never talk to you again. to explain celtic1234 (the greatest banjo player ever to come out of the middle part of knocknaheeny( took me for a hill walk....well 3hrs later I realised that this was not a hill but a mountain .As I've put on 3 stone and I have nt trained in 2 years this was not a pleasent expieriance for parts of my body i had forgot about and thought i 'd never use again are in pain........................Thanks bud I won't forget it your in the book next to that famous fiddle player.
John Joe plays John Lambe Bodhrans. He is an Irishman living in Nantes and makes beautiful bodhrans. Also he has that many he does not stick to one drum because the makers will start fighting and taking the credit.
Johnjoe plays drums made by most of the quality makers, he doesn't endorse any of them in particular, despite what we may read on various makers' websites. They all sound great in his hands.
The drum that Saint was referring to is an Albert Alfonso drum with a heavy skin.

Re: john joe kelly
Redhead's right. John Joe's playing a Christian Hedwitschak drum these days. I think that he's using his beaters too.

Re: john joe kelly
John Joe's Drum is a Seamus O Kane Drum.
But you don't get a free John Joe with every drum - so you may not get the same results!!
