Morning all! I think everyone has seen one of those thingamajiggies that fix onto a microphone stand with a cradle for hanging a fiddle from when you're not playing the instrument. Anyone know where I can obtain one of these useful devices??
I know just what you're talking about. A local blacksmith (I'm not kidding) fashioned the very thing for my mandolin. I could not say what's available on you side of the pond but I can point you to Elderly Instruments of Lansing, MI, USA.

HI Dargs..There is an adapter you can get to mount a second mike on your mike stand. It clamps anywhere on the vertical tube. I then bought one of the little clips with a yoke on it that music stores use to display violins on the wall and drilled and tapped some holes in a small piece of aluminum (that'll be aluminium to you) angle to bolt the whole thing together. It looks not bad and has served me well. You will also need to make a hook to hang the bow on. I carved one from arbutus wood and stuck it in the top of the old mike stand that I use as a fiddle stand. It makes an attractive addition to the stage setup.
geoffwright.. It sounds like your bodhran hanger could lead to aircooled bodhrans which might mean they could be played longer before burning out. :-})

Hey, thanks everyone, the String Swing is the one I'm after, but I don't like my chances of getting one down here in the 'white trash' of Asia...Actually, I do a bit of asking around, perhaps there is a local supplier. The Bodhran stand sounds like a very intriguing idea geoff...
I contacted Stringswing a few days back, they don't have a local supplier but will do mail order with Visa, Mastercard or Discover.
The CC08 (music stand version) is $14.10 USD and the CC04 (mike stand) is $14. They quoted postage to Australia of $20 airmail and $9 surface mail for a package of 3 CC08s and one CC04.

You can also get gadgets to fasten bodhrans to the wall. These gadgets also make useful 6" nails.
