I hope you won't think this a silly thread, or that ol' Greg has been tuning too many klunkers...but I was just sent some orange-colored PVC pipe from a pal in Australia. Orange! Imagine that.
Here in the USA, our Schedule 40 PVC (the kind I make my flutes from) comes in white, for drinking water uses, and gray, for electrical conduit.
So, are there other colors availabie besides white, gray, and orange in your neck of the woods? If so, maybe we could arrange something...now, back to my tunes...
You make your own from grey conduit? Mind telling me how you do that? Whats the hardest part... the fipple or getting the holes right? You must make low whistles judging from the width of conduit I've seen. You know, you could just paint up the plastic with acrylic paint, then apply several coats of clear acrylic. Stencils would be cool too. If you carefully protect the window and holes.. I imagine the acrylic would do much to the sound. I'd make a rasta colored pipe!
I have a white PVC Doug Tipple flute and I really like it. It's a little big for my hands, but I just love it anyway. Rather than dorky colors, might I suggest something more like the pretty tape I found in a craft store which I applied to my own flute to make faux "rings":
I have seen purple ..I think. For gas. Lime green is telecommunications and tigris system. Orange is for outdoor 240v electrical conduit. Not that expensive at the right place IE retail outlets. Heinously expensive at plumbing supply wholesalers.
I make them from schedule 80 3/4 inch pipe (it's thicker than the schedule 40 stuff). I've made some from clear pipe (which looks pretty cool) expecially when a decorative wine cork is used for the stopper. The clear pipe is kind of expensive though.

The clear pipe is made by Harvel plastics.

Gregg, Apparently, these colors have been around for a while. Certainly you have heard of the "Auld Orange Flute?"
