I know soul, I know. But I wouldnt bring him to a session. He wouldnt know a jig if I danced one on his forehead, and I've eated spuds that were more interested in ITM. Poor man is a lost cause.
I saw an ITM programme from the archives on TG4 a couple of weeks ago in which Tony MacMahon did not appear in any of the camera shots for the duration of the programme. I wonder if that was some kind of record ???
Well done TG4,Great to hear a proper musician play without
gimmicks.Any person that wants to learn ITM should listen to
Tony MCMahon,s words and his brilliant accordion playing.
What a great programme ! McMahon really captures the essence of Irish traditional music and expresses it eloquently in words and music.
Anyone know the name of the last tune he was playing there with Steve Cooney ?
those who say playing trad on accordion is a gimmick might also wish to check out the other recent rte archive video segments currently viewable in rte's "the full set" series. there is one lovely segment with josephine marsh and mick kinsella, and a second lovely segment with dermot byrne and mairead ni mhaonaigh...
thanks for pointing this out ! I really enjoyed the Tony MacMahon on TG4.
I have a question about one his tunes they played. The tune was Tony with the Banjo player (Barney McKenna) at about 17:30; they were in his living room. A really catchy tune ! thanks

Re: Tony McMahon on TG4
savage if someone read your post without reading the post before they might think you were talking about Tony MacMahon!!

'He wouldn't know a jig if I danced one on his forehead, and I've eated spuds that were more interested in ITM. Poor man is a lost cause'
Now that's possibly one of the funniest potentially misinterpreted posts I've ever seen

Re: Tony McMahon on TG4
some people would say playing trad on the accordion is a gimmick in itself! Not me mind, I appreciate a good musician no matter what the instrument
