Just asking, did anybody see these idiots at the fleadh.
(not sure how to set up links so stick with me a minute). Go to you tube, type in fleadh cheoil, go to the 8th video conveniently titled "irish music sh\t", watch and enjoy.
Well, she has a point. I'm kind of wrinkly, and some mornings I feel old. At least I don't purchase my Punkwear at Hot Topic, though.
I'm sure no one else on this board was ever young and ignorant. She'll probably take up the piano accordion when she's 40, and become a fixture at the local polka club.
I'm not sure I was ever young, but I sure was ignorant... until folks I respected (as rare as they were at that time) reamed me a new one for being an ignorant asshat. I thanked them later. These little twits need a bit of, erm, *guidance*, and who knows, maybe they'll grow up too and be indebted to the old 'n' wrinklies for giving them a bit of a dressing down.
NINE look at the other videos of the fleadh that this girl and her mates have posted. Then make up your mind. I know they werent annoying anybody but there is no reason to call the music sh\t or call everyone old
I don't see the problem. Kids like mouthing off, and the music is an easy target to the uninitiated young- dare I say, understandably? Why get upset? My parents used to rant when I listened to Elvis. I thought they were brain dead listening to Victor Sylvester. Plus ca change...
Well if someone makes fun of our music, while carrying an inflated Sponge Bob, it's a bit hard to take her too seriously.
My son is 16 and most of his high school colleagues here in KY think it's cool that he plays Irish music. The fact that he spends a lot of time in pubs may be part of it!
Those girls haven't done anything wrong, I'd argue they're on the right track by poking fun at their elders. Imagine if all children were blindly obedient. Why, there'd be none of that wonderful regional variation you all go on about! Scary. What I noticed is, they talk like they're from Beverly Hills over there, too? I swear, TV is killing everything. Does that mean we can expect the OED to include alternate net-speak spellings?
Whoa whoa whoa. I am NOT liking these comments about them being young an excuse for being asses. They really did annoy me though....probably because I have seen so many of their clones that think they're funny and best of all original. (This "randomness" like finding random people to annoy and wearing hot topic clothes is the modern way of being unique, just like every other unique kid.) I don't know...I could go on a lot longer about this but I know you don't want to hear it....just saying that as a young person I am very p*ssed off when other young people do stupid things and get away with it, but leave adults with the idea that we're all stupid and immature.
When I think that you have to arrange accommodation etc and prepare for the journey months in advance, I have to ask myself what the hell was that kid doing there. Maybe they just wandered into the fleadh and were trying to find out what it was all about. A bit sad really, as I was one of those wrinklies that she was on about.. My verdict......Just a smart alex kid trying to be trendy. The trendy swear word was nothing that a smack on the arse wouldn't cure. Other than that...harmless.
The last fleadh I was at was 1977 in Ennis. Great build up, but the weekend was mostly spent with people punching the crap out of other people, especially a bloke called Hanrahan who won the banjo competition. All he did was insult Belfast people.
So I would suggest this is rather mild.
And thanks to whoever it was that pointed out who or what sponge bob was/is.
Beg your pardon - RTE. I thought he was on Clare FM as well - perhaps I just assumed that because he's a Clareman. I don't suppose he'll be getting any work on BBC Ulster, anyway.
I'm not too enamoured of his cheesy compering style on Ceili House, but on the occasions I've met him, he's been nothing short of a gentleman
"I'm not too enamoured of his cheesy compering style on Ceili House, but on the occasions I've met him, he's been nothing short of a gentleman" - which is why I assumed BB was joking about Kieran's attitude to Belfast people in 1977 and my comments about their participation on Céilí House programmes was equally "tongue in cheek". I've always found Kieran to be one of trad music's gentlemen for many reasons and his steady banjo playing, particularly in a session is something else.
He unfortunately upset my wife on the way to play in the competition. He then unfortunately upset me in a pub. I asked loudly "Who is a Belfast bas##rd" and three quarters of the pub jumped up to defend Northern honour.
Mind you the entire weekend was spoilt because the whole of Belfast, many who had never seen a fiddler before, descended on the town to escape from the North for a few days. One of the lesser known drawbacks of "the troubles". I also stopped going to Donegal for the same reason.
I believe Kieran "made something of himself" afterwards.

I was just like her at that age. Well, quieter, uglier and less opinionated, but otherwise much the same.

Re: idiots
RTE's Céilí House - not Clare FM - and after this, I don't think we'll be hearing much from Belfast on his programme for some time to come!

Think about it.
