fleadh at wkend

So is there any trad musos from tullamore out there that can give us their opinion of the town, best bars, scary bars, disco bars, good places to eat and generally what they think about the forth coming invasion.
PS I am of the opinion that this can be a great fleadh if we all have a positive attitude and make a committment to ourselves to have a ball.

Re: fleadh at wkend

I was going to post a thread "Best Fleadh Ever" last night but thought that after 3 days, it might be a bit premature! Last night I counted 5 separate sessions going simultaneously in the Bridge House Hotel. There was literally something for everyone from the teenies to the high octane 20 something type not to mention the Éigse tutors session and the midlle of the road (and age) one that I ended up in. As we played texts came in about other sessions in places such as de Brún's, the Wolf trap, Annie Kelly's, etc where the craic was mighty - musicians should be born with the gift of bi-location.

From my own experience of trying to sus out a few likely pubs on the Monday afternoon, the landlords couldn't have been more helpful offering different locations in their bars we might prefer and also stating that they were "family friendly"and had no problem with younger musicians.

Overall a very friendly place, great venues for the music and lots of musicians to play with. Look out Listowel, your crown as premier town for the Fleadh may be in danger!

Don't forget to turn up in the Square on Friday night at 7.00pm to become part of history by taking part in the biggest ever Fleadh session - mind you I hate thinking about the rush back to the pubs afterwards with 2,000 musicians all trying to get a drink!

HIYA ALL YE FLEADH GOERS:
Larbhas O Murchu said this wkend fleadh will go down in history with record attendances. I remember two sessions going on at once in dempseys. The largest session in the square was great craic. There most have been 2700 musicians there. The tribes ceili band came third in the senior bands but I thought gleann na coille were super. Nice swing in the dance music and brilliant drumming. Allow deserved to win it. They played lucy cambells reel. Red hot stuff.
