Carney plays with a bit of swing, which makes me think I can almost hear it your banjo..
I don't know if you've got Audacity, or other free sound-editing software, but you might try downloading that Carney setting from www.archive.org, import it into Audacity, then select-All, Change-Tempo or somesuch, which doesn't change the pitch but will stretch it out & make it slower, say 30%. Just a guess, but any more and the sound might get somewhat muddier.
Then ou might be able to learn the tune after a few dozen listenings...
Another thought--transcribe it yourself to ABC, using the existing www.thesession.org ABC setting(s) as a basis.
Paste into Barfly, Skink (for Macintosh) or something else-ABC for Windoze. Alter the ABC file only where different.
It'd be a great way to learn the tune *and* ABCs while you're at it (if not familiar already) because you'd have to listen to it over and over, and you can compare Carney's notes to what's already there.
By the time you finish editing the ABC file, you'd have the tune in your head--and manybe not even need the sheet music.
Checked out your YouTube--not to shabby! That mando-banjo is quite an endearing instrument.
Keep on pluckin', Mr.Dub!
pipe transcriptions
pipe transcriptions
does anyone have transcriptions for:
Billy Pigg's The Border Minstrel.
or
Michael Carney's version of The Jolly Tinker
http://www.archive.org/details/MichaelCarneyTheJollyTinker
i cant get enough of these recordings, and i want to make my banjo sound more like the pipes.

anything along similiar lines would be greatly appreciated.

Re: pipe transcriptions
ive been listening to Patsy Touhey a lot as well.
mind blowing.
but i think his style is less do-able on the banjo.
i suppose i just need to sit down and work them out myself.

Re: pipe transcriptions
Dub
Why don't you just buy a set of pipes and get rid of the banjo
