2-3 Musicians required for the Saturday before "Paddy's day" in Lewisham
2-3 Musicians required for the Saturday before "Paddy's day" in Lewisham
My own lads can't do the Saturday 15th Mar. for a rather special "gig" - one's teaching fiddle, the other 2 are most likely to be working.
Anyway, the deal is. On the Lewisham (SE London, UK) St. Patrick's Day Parade, we'll be on the back of a truck, on a float which will be done up like an Irish Pub (I kid you not), sitting round a table, playing tunes and supping some Guinness. We'll be driven from Catford (Irish Centre) to the middle of Lewisham shopping centre (about 1.5/2 miles), where (allegedly) a stage will be set up and we play to the dancers for the public. Then we pick up the float again, after a couple of pints in an adjacent hostelry, and do our thing back to Catford. This takes place from late morning till mid afternoon. There will be a small amount of dosh involved (around a ton, to be split 3/4 ways), but mostly this is a labour of love.
I need, therefore, 2 or 3 other heads, but not a flute/whistle player(soy yo). A fiddle/box player and a guitarist/mando/bouzouki/good percussionist are near enough essential, then A.N. Other - box/banjo/pipes/fiddle/whatever - so long as (s)he is a strong player and knows all the standards. As I said, this IS a labour of love, ie the craic is ninety (ie, excellent) (assuming you're a craic-addict!). There may be some more stuff later but that is not confirmed as yet.
Any takers?
Love and Peace (we could sure do with some of that these days!)

Re: 2-3 Musicians required for the Saturday before
G'day Danny,
Sounds great! I wish I was in the UK to join in. Sadly I'm the land down under and will be missing the craic! However, I'm sure to be getting involved in something a little more local. Good luck.
Re: 2-3 Musicians required for the Saturday before
Danny, what a gig/trip? An Irish pub float, will the bhoys in the west medical building believe it? Cant wait to tell Monty and Big Jimmy. Fantastic, good luck, hope you get the band together.
Craig.
Re: 2-3 Musicians required for the Saturday before
Yeah!! Too right, Craig - it really is good fun this one - you wouldn't be down here then?...big Monty the Paisley man will be apoplectic with Unionist outrage. Bless'm.
He'll be stood at the top of Gilmourhill brandishing a piece of paper, shouting:
"I have my surtuficate!"
"I have my surtuficate!"
...on the 17th....
.....if you don't know what I'm droning on about, think back to the early 80's, in the north of Ireland, when a chap called Ian Paisley (who sent off to a mail order company in the USA {a putative progenitor of Amazon} and bought himself a theology degree and a PhD), and assured a number of other gentlemen that he was in possession of a gun certificate, should he need to use it against those nasty native boundahs of the Roman persuasion.
The subtext of all this to those not from the West of Scotland is that the aforementioned locality is a bit like a mirror image of the north of Ireland, but they 'nearly' manage to channel their aggro into 2 football (soccer to our transatlantic sorority and fraternity) teams, Rangers and Celtic - you can guess who's who.
[In actual fact the Monty lad is a diamond geezer, this is all a wind up, and sorry for the in-jokes to all OUT THERE.]
Incidentally, Craig, getting back to music, did you know Jimmy's brother is a well-known B/C button accordion player, Billy Maguire, living in Fife (I think), who has written at least one very demanding tune? Ally Bain and Phil Cunningham have one on that joint album they made. There's no way I could go near it - way too hard.
Anyway, Happy Shrove Tuesday to all! I made my pancakes for the fambly. So what are youse all giving up for Lent? I'll give up champagne and caviare because it doesn't apply to me cos I'm not a catholic. I'm an atheist. No, I don't ascribe to that faith either. I don't even know if I'm agnostic. Do disaffected catholics become Devout atheists and disaffected prods become Staunch atheists?
Oh - I nearly forgot - I still need 1 more skull to make up the quartet. Don't all rush at once!
And also - we'll be miked up, so make sure you're ready for that!
Re: 2-3 Musicians required for the Saturday before
An Englishman, Irishman and a Scotsman sat in a pub chatting about their sons' names.
The English man starts by saying "My darling son George was named after the great patron saint of England because he was actually born on St. George's day!"
The Scotsman joins in saying that his son Andrew was actually named Andrew because he was "born on St.Andrew's day"
The Irishman, who up till now has been quiet, now also joins in with, "Well my son Pancake....."
