Migrating to Edinburgh with pipes

Migrating to Edinburgh with pipes

I'm moving to Edinburgh at the end of September and I'm sort of looking at flats online. One of my concerns is finding a building I can practice pipes (uilleann, though in Edinburgh they ought to be used to having loads of highland pipers around anyway, right?) in without having to hike to a music building and wrestle for practice rooms or any of that BS. Right now that's how I live and I am about done with it. Does anyone have any thoughts on how to do this? I could just apply for the uni's accomodation and hope it works out (that would be the lazy way of dealing) although that went spectacularly badly this year and I can't even play a muted whistle where I live now without being given out to. Or I could chance private accomodation, but no guarantees of that working out, either.

Thoughts, horror stories, advice?

Re: Migrating to Edinburgh with pipes

Buy somewhere out in Oxgangs or Balerno. An old mate of mine did that in Oxgangs (though not a piper.) Loves it.

You can hardly compare Oxgangs to Balerno even although they're both on the west side of town!!!!

Balerno is in the only local constituency(Edinburgh Pentlands) which still has a Tory MP.

Re: Migrating to Edinburgh with pipes

Have a chat with the uni there in Cork about giving me funding for a PhD and we'll talk, Eddie.

Maybe for a post doc. If they give me $$$ (sorry, no euro sign on yank laptop). :)

Hey Em, for future reference, a Euro symbol is Option-@ on the yank Macs. (Shift-Option-2)

Good luck finding a better place in Edinburgh than you got stuck with in Durham!
