WOMAD - any chance of some ITM sessions?

WOMAD - any chance of some ITM sessions?

I'll be at Womad this weekend. Any other 'thesession' members going /interested in having the odd session ?
I will be taking an instrument (or two) as I predict ITM withdrawal symptons setting in after a few hours of listening to African drumming etc.
Where / how to meet up? Guess there might be some sort of central notice board / contacts point. Maybe a note headed : 'IRISH SESSION' with location / time would work. Anyone with a BIG tent or somewhere suitable for session if its always raining ? (as being predicted !)

Re: WOMAD - any chance of some ITM sessions?

Col - Ottery and I are meeting up, and one of the people I'm going with sort of plays the bodhran. I've also contacted another member whom I got the feeling was interested but he hasn't got back to me. So far we've kind of agreed to meet at my tent which will have a gazebo over, or nearby it, and we'll be in the Family field. Apart from that we haven't got much further!! But we kinda know what one another look like. Send me an email....soon. I'm leaving London early thursday morning (about 6am)

Col, I've sent you an email. But I think any sessions will have to be in the mornings before the drummers wake up and invade us ....

Oh God. Is that a possibility?

Re: WOMAD - any chance of some ITM sessions?

A Strong Probability I'd say. There are lots of people who like to bang things at these festivals, and very few who can play things. Though it would be nice to be proved wrong...
At least the drums drown out the shakey eggs(!)

Re: WOMAD - any chance of some ITM sessions?

So, they would just come over to our session/gathering, at our tent or whatever and start thumping away? God I've lived a quiet life....

Re: WOMAD - any chance of some ITM sessions?

You've said what I had been thinking -re 'festival drummers'.
Maybe the answer is sitting in a tight 'closed circle' so it looks like we are a group of friends / band / disfunctional family or whatever - and not a 'free for all'. If anyone still tries to join in banging away on bongos, african drum, or whatever - we say politely (at first) 'sorry -this is an Irish session' .
Thanks for the replies -I'll make email contact.

Re: WOMAD - any chance of some ITM sessions?

If there's only three of us, any 'closed circle' will be tight indeed :-)
I'm sure that it won't be a problem .....

Re: WOMAD - any chance of some ITM sessions?

That sounds good Col. But can my mate, who's learning the bodhran, join us? That'll make 4, and he's a big bloke, over 6 foot so useful to have on our side :-) Anyway, I'm not quite sure of the geography of all this but, surely if we were in the vicinity of my or one of our gazebos, it would be obvious it was a private affair would it not?
Ahh, the weather's looking (almost) promising, I'll bring the box if I can fit it.

Re: WOMAD - any chance of some ITM sessions?

Sorry we missed you Col. Myself and Ottery had a few tunes on Saturday (?) morning. I understand there was a problem with mobile phones. The mud was a bummer and I can understand if you got fed up because of that - it p!ssed me off, and I strongly considered going home on Friday, but then stuck it out. Maybe next time.

Re: WOMAD - any chance of some ITM sessions?

Yes, sorry Col, I got your message on Mrs. Ott's Walkie-Talkie, and then the battery in the contraption ran out before I could get back to you or write down your number!
I expect you were stuck in the mud somewhere, like the rest of us - it made it a bit hard to get around.
I shall write to WOMAD, though, and suggest they put their music on in the mornings in future, to leave the afternoon free for a session, which would be a bit more civilised.

Re: WOMAD - any chance of some ITM sessions?

WOMAD made a statement regarding the mud, I don't know if it can be accessed here:
