Did anyone go up today? I though the under 18 competitions were on but the program of competitions which I got after the Dublin fleadh was hard to read and I found out my competitions are tomorrow. Well, made a day of it anyway. Recorded some good under 12 and under 15 players in the mandolin, banjo and whistle competitions. It kind of eases the pressure for the competitions tomorrow on my part.
15 - 18 and senior competitions are usually on sundays expcept for some comps at the all Ireland - usually the bodhran, and 15-18 bands. Weather held up well. Music was very good in the competitions and a lot of the winners are excited about the prospect of the new opening parade at the All Ireland inTullamore.
Very pleased to have got through to All-Ireland in Mandolin (placed 2nd). I was very nervous for the banjo competition and made a complete botch of the hornpipe with only 8 bars of it left to play. The jig went well but the hornpipe ruined my confidence for the reel so, meh! Mandola (miscellaenous) was rubbish but I blame myself for lack of practice. I'm very surprised I got through on the mandolin though, I really didn't see that coming. The weather was good all weekend, just wished I had got to the ceili band competitions. On to Tullamore so....
yeah,i went up for the weekend..em,the gig rig on main street was good on saturday with the sean-nos dancing!..Athboy was a good venue-and i enjoyed taking the shuttle bus-ha!it was mad craic!!funny moments!!.....the weekend was good craic and i checked out a few competeions myself aswell as competing in a duet and a group..senior grupai ceol was deadly-anyone check it out?..
Paddy, I'm guessing, but were you the one without the beard? If I'm asking the wrong question, then the other banjo player must have been Paul. More importantly, how did ye get on and will we be seeing the group in Tullamore?
Ha, that's a good one. You know the local sessioneers too well! It was in fact Paul and myself. Unfortunately, we didn't get through but, having said that, we all agreed that we played as well as we could have. It was still good fun. You won't see us in Tullamore as group but I'm sure we'll all be there in person!

Yeah, I was competing in the Craobh Chualann grupa ceoil (senior). I was the younger of the two banjo players if you're wondering.
